Poster analysis: the tagline of five criminals, one line up, no coincidence informs you what the focus of the film is going to be, they are very stereotypical as they look like the kind of people that you would expect to commit a crime, the characters look very relaxed, almost at home in a line-up, Kevin Spacey's character clearly demonstrates a vulnerability as shown by his leg being bent inwards and him holding his wrist, the businessman clearly has more money and is in a different class to the others, each person in the group clearly has a specific role to play in how they are run and how they make decisions.
Opening Sequence: the movie starts with keaton lying down on a ship with a trail of lighter fluid that he lights with a lighter but then from above someone pisses down onto the fire and puts it out, he then climbs down the ladder and speaks to keaton which is when you see his gold watch, he then shoots keaton which is when they zoom out so you only hear gun shots, then the killer walks away and lights the lighter fluid and the boat eventually completely lights up, the scene ends with the camera zooming in to a pile of ropes which you eventually find out that there is a person in there, it then alters scene to Verbal played by Kevin Spacey who is speaking in what looks like a police station, it then changes to all 5 of the characters being brought into the station, each character is brought in to the station from a different setting, on the far left of the group is Hockney, his opening scene is him messing about with a car in a garage in an unknown location, they send at least 5 officers to arrest him which lets you know that they consider him dangerous and when he reaches under the car to grab a cloth they all grab their guns as if he is about to grab a gun or a weapon, next over is McManus, his arrest is the worst, he is woken up very roughly by the police in a dark room on a matress that seems to be the only thing in the room, he tries to fight back but he is thenpulled out from the room and taken to the station, next along is Fenster who is grabbed outside of a club, he walks around the corner but recognises the police car so he tries to turn around and walk the other way but the car pull up in front of him and he gets arrested, next over is McManus who is arrested at a really fancy restaurant in the middle of dinner, he is cleary in a different class to the other criminals, the officers clearly know McManus as they seem familiar to each other, he promptly leaves his dinner guests and is taken away, lastly is Verbal who is seen walking through to the line-up room which is where you notice that he has a limp and he also holds his left arm as he walks, they are then taken into the line-up room where they are all told to say a line that was said during the robbey they are accused of, this is the point when they say the line and they aren't found guilty so they are let go.
